Komikon 2K6

Whoo! Yeah! Went to Komikon 2K6 last saturday and sold some comics. I didn't make nowhere near half of what I expected but who cares, its my first time selling at a con and I had fun. I was able to recover my half of the rent for the table and chairs so that's cool. Komikon 2K6 was held at Bahay ng Alumni in UP Diliman so no question I gots to go to it since it so near to my house.

The best part of Komikon was meeting Gerry Alanguilan, Edgar Tadeo and Leinil Francis Yu and having them sign my X-Men comics. Thus begins my experiment: "How much a comic book's value would increase if three signatures of any of the books creators were obtained despite the at-best average story." But hey, those three are alright.

Setting up was tiring for me. After an hour of setup and arranging my comics in alphabetical order I got tired, my shirt was stained with sweat but I didn't feel the sweat. Its evidenced in the picture anyway. At first, there was supposed to be three of us sharing a table and selling our wares, but Aldrin had to bow out cause of work. So its down to SuperRicko and I. Our third man would be Sonny, my driver for the day. I've got driving issues so let it go.

We had decent traffic around our table cause everybody in attendance really goes to every single table and we were near the Alfredo Alcala mini museum. Thanks to all who browsed and/or bought our wares. Except for this one dude who I think bad mouthed me to his friends. Dude I already explained to you, I lowered my prices cause I didn't want to go home with a heavy load. So I lowered my prices for my shit to be gone sooner than my actual bowel movement. I don't go no obligation to tell you that I'll be selling at a lower price late in the afternoon. If you still don't enjoy reading the comic you bought then you're missing the point.

What a pisser that one. So anyway, I manned the table the entire day and only left when I went to get my comics signed or go to the bathroom. Took pictures of the place, people I know and cosplayers I don't. Except for Sam Corpuz. Wasn't able to take a picture of him for the photo parade.

Speaking of the toilet, A young buck was browsing for boxes fora comics mad by Leinil Francis Yu. I told him to look for Wolverine #125. I helped him find it but he didn't believe Yu drew it. I opened the bag to show him the evidence. He gladly shelled out 100 Pesos for it then went in line for Yu's signature. Within an hour that young buck went back to my table and showed me all three signatures. I suggested he sell it for 10K to which he gave a polite smile and thanked me for the book.

Afterwards Ricko and his girlfriend, Thea, asked me why don't I get Leinil to sign my book, I said he was overrated so was Gerry Alanguilan (Man did I eat my words after meeting them). After doing number one in the bathroom, which Ricko previously questioned, I had an epiphany "Theres no harm in having my books signed. Its free. And I could sell it at a higher price but If i don't, it wouldn't matter cause getting it signed is free." After washing my hands, I bee lined for my boxes and took out the only comics made by those 3 had them signed hence the experiment.

First thing I sold was my entire culture crash collection. That opened my eyes to the younger-than-I. They prefer manga over comics. I was able to sell a few comics throughout the day but things really picked up for us past 4:30pm. that's when we lowered my prices.

At 6pm Ricko headed out to spend quality time with Thea. Sonny and I stayed until 630pm in which I made one last sale and Sonny started hauling everything into the car. After that I finally made my rounds on the floor which opened up more disappointment for me cause some dude 3 tables away from me was selling Mecha Press Magazine. To me, the Holy Grail of mecha anime magazines. Its not as important as it sounds though.

SuperRicko and I didn't make as much as I wanted but we still sold more than I would have expected. But the most important part of it all was we all had fun.

Especially me. I had fun.

The photo parade will come tomorrow.
